2 Days Adventure for Wine Lovers

Terre de Vins Bordeaux Tasting-December 2023

By Robert Stepek, Sommelier oenoblogger in www.maitredecave.com

2011 marked the first vintage of Terre de Vins’ Bordeaux Tasting au Palais de la Bourse. This twelfth edition, Saturday and Sunday, 9 and 10 December 2023, featured more than 200 exhibitors with more than 600 still wines\, sparkling  and spirits to evaluate. The wine exhibition filled two levels of the Palais, and the spirits and liqueur exhibition occupied the first floor of Musée National des Douanes across the plaza. The crowd of professionals, amateurs, and students may have surpassed 7000 attendees during the two day event.Once again, the event offered a variety of popular Workshops, Conferences, and Master Classes presented by representatives from the Bordeaux School of Wine, industry celebrities, educators, and influencers.

Many workshops with still wines and sparkling

The offerings included workshops on food and wine pairings featuring local specialty products. The conferences included discussions about ChampMany workshopsagne Styles and Rosés with Intensity. The classes presented Three Bordeaux Legends from the Right and Left Banks, Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classés, Seductive 2016 Pomerols, and a Session to Experience the Glory of Pinot Noir with Veuve Clicquot’s La Grande Dame Rosé. Of course, the classes also included quizzes for those who wanted to evaluate themselves.

 My favorite

Terre de Vins Bordeaux Tasting has been one of my favorite annual events during the last decade. Every December, as a Maitre de Cave blogger,  I reserve the weekend to make certain I can experience Bordeaux during the holiday season and two days of exciting wine and spirit tasting.

Following is a list of my favorite wines at the Tasting and their Ratings:

2024 Bordeaux Vintage Report

Weather statistics tell an interesting story about climate and grape growing. This year’s weather statistics show clearly how this year’s unusual weather patterns shaped the quantity and quality of the 2024 Bordeaux wine production. The relationship between weather conditions and wine quality is a key focus, as each season’s behavior leaves a lasting impact on grape growth and, ultimately, the character of the wine.

Exceptional Bordeaux Primeurs 2023

The wines included on our list of exceptional wines are divided equally among Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot dominance and Left Bank and Right Bank production. We would recommend reading through all the tasting notes available to you on the 2023 vintage and make any decisions based on that research. Quality, as well as inferiority, were spread evenly throughout the vineyards of Bordeaux in 2023.

Exceptional Wines Bordeaux Primeurs 2023

We tasted almost the same number of wines that we tasted last year, and the average score is approximately the same. So, neither of the variables, quantity of wines tasted and average score, impacted the results from the 2023 vintage. The reason there are so many more Exceptional Wines is that the 2023 vintage is significantly better than the 2022. The best wines in 2023 are better, achieved higher scores, than the wines in 2022, and there are more wines that achieved an exceptional level of quality.

Bordeaux Primeurs Vintage 2023

The 2023 Bordeaux vintage will be successful, with good to exceptional quality attained in all regions. As usual, it was a difficult vintage.

Exceptional Bordeaux Primeurs 2022

Maître de Cave presents our list of Exceptional Wines from the April 2023 Primeur Tastings in Bordeaux during the last week of April. The list of Exceptional Wines from the 2022 vintage is significantly larger than the 2021 vintage. The reason there are more Exceptional Wines, and generally higher, overall ratings, is because the vintage is significantly better.

2020 Bordeaux Vintage by Maitredecave

Our overall impression of the 2020 vintage during Primeurs was that the 2020 vintage was a good vintage with many exceptional wines among both the finest Châteaux and among those less-well-known Châteaux in the less well-known Bordeaux Appellations.
